Looking Back, Moving Forward!

Just 2 weeks out from Christmas I have struggled to come up with what I wanted to talk about in our last newsletter of 2024. My usual writing focuses on trying to share some observations or insights from the world of revenue generation. But I’m not sure that people want to hear that at this time of the year.

Instead, I have decided to simply share something that may resonate with you.

2024 was an undoubtedly tough year; in fact, maybe the toughest economy I have seen in my career. That is a big call when you consider the challenges of the previous few years that starting back in 2020.

I am going to borrow a quote I read recently in James Clear’s newsletter from someone called Joseph Campbell, “Any disaster you can survive is an improvement in your character, your stature, and your life. What a privilege!” I also read in the comedian Jimmy Carr’s book that he loves when things go wrong because that provides his best material. The best stories I can remember typically had some form of challenge attached to them.

If you were successful in achieving some, or all your goals in 2024 then brilliant, congrats! And equally if you fell short of what you were aiming for at the start of the year, but you made it through the year largely intact, then brilliant and congrats to you too! Some years it is enough to get ‘through’, and other years are about getting ‘ahead’.

You can take some comfort that economic activity in 2025 should be improved. Spoiler alert, in the Mood of the Sales Leader survey (released at the end of Jan) the expectations of 2025 is overall positive particularly in the second half of the year.

The most important thing all of us can do this holiday season is to take some time out. Just as important I hope that you are blessed with great weather. This time of the year is the opportunity to recharge and get ready for what will no doubt be a fascinating 2025 and it is important that we are in the best possible shape to take full advantage of the year ahead.

If you are a regular to this newsletter thank you for following and we hope you have found some value, and if you are new then we hope to see more of you in 2025.

Here is to an exciting 2025! Personally, I am excited about the new year but not before a bit of R & R!
